Designing a research project [Monograph] - 2nd ed. / [rev. and ed. by M.J. Mellion]
Verschuren, Piet \ Doorewaard, Hans \ Poper, R. \ Mellion, M.J. \ 2010
research projects - scientific research - organization of research - research - design

The prime purpose of this book is teaching graduate students and doctoral candidates to develop an effective research design. A second, derived objective is to assist them in designing their own qualification research. In this book, insights, guiding principles and methodologies are presented for developing a research design. No particular knowledge for studying this book is required. On the basis of many examples, the reader is gradually introduced into the creative process of designing. At the conclusion of each chapter, a step-by-step plan of action is presented, which should be followed when designing a research project. Now in its second edition, this book includes several important adjustments, moderations and additional sections. The authors extended the presentation of the intervention, and the elaboration of the set of practice-oriented research types which are based upon the distinct phases of the intervention cycle. In addition, the technique of unraveling key concepts is further specified. Numerous examples have been updated and even more examples have been added in order to present the reader with a wide variety of examples from many different social sciences. An extended series of assignments has been included in the book, offering the reader multiple opportunities to test their knowledge and to practice their skills in designing a research project. The Appendix covers a thorough discussion concerning designing conceptual (causal) models.

Learning for action : a short definitive account of soft systems methodology and its use for practitioner, teachers and students [Monograph]
Checkland, P. \ Poulter, J. \ cop. 2006
information systems - information processing - systems analysis - systems approach - problem solving - problem analysis - methodology - applications

The approach to tackling messy real-life situations known as Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) was developed in a 30-year programme of action research led by Peter Checkland. The approach is now used and taught around the world, and its development has been described in depth in four books published between 1981 and 1999, which are now regarded as classics in the field. "Learning for Action" first provides an overview of SSM and its use, then gives a detailed account of the techniques used within it. It also crisply summarizes many accounts of SSM in action in real situations in both private and public sectors, using the pattern: the situation; the use of SSM; outcomes, with references given to more detailed accounts. Also covered are the craft skills which practitioners develop, the theory underlying SSM, and the fundamental shift in thinking away from the systems approaches of the 1960s which its development signalled - namely the transition from 'hard' to 'soft' systems thinking.

Marketing models [Monograph] - International ed
Iacobucci, D. \ 2012
marketing - mathematical models - multivariate analysis - statistical analysis - textbooks

One of the larger challenges of understanding modeling is the issue of balancing quantitative skill sets with qualitative concepts. It requires your familiarity with specific mathematical concepts and formulas in order to perform basic tasks. This is a topic that is being taken very seriously in the discipline. Many companies routinely collect massive amounts of customer data, which requires marketing modelers to translate that data into information that may be used to make fact-based strategic and tactical decisions. Marketers are being challenged to illustrate and demonstrate the financial return and measurement of their actions and marketing dashboards and metrics are becoming more important. This book was itself designed in part from a customer perspective, and each chapter also covers a marketing topic using the optimal methods. - See more at:
