General introduction to species sensitivity distributions \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Posthuma, L. \ Traas, T.P. \ Suter II, G.W. \ 2002
The species sensitivity distribution (SSD) concept was proposed two decades ago as an ecotoxicological tool that is useful for the derivation of environmental quality criteria and ecological risk assessment. This chapter introduces the issues and the ...
help
European history of species sensitivity distributions \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Straalen, N.M. van \ Leeuwen, C.J. van \ 2002
The notion that species show considerable variability in their susceptibility to toxicants developed in the beginning of the 1980s when results of systematic testing programs became available. In this chapter a brief account is given of the developme ...
help
Theory of ecological risk assessment based on species sensitivity distributions \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Straalen, N.M. van \ 2002
Risk assessment using species sensitivity distributions (SSDs) focuses on one possible undesired event, the exposure of an arbitrarly chosen species to an environmental concentration greater than its no-effect level. There are two directions in which ...
help
Normal species sensitivity distributions and probabilistic ecological risk assessment \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Aldenberg, T. \ Jaworska, J.S. \ Traas, T.P. \ 2002
This chapter brings together several statiscal methods employed when identifying and evaluating species sensitivity distributions (SSDs). The focus is primarly on normal distributions and its shown how to obtain a simple "best" fit and how to assess ...
help
Extrapolation factors for tiny toxicity data sets from species sensitivity distributions with known standard deviation \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Aldenberg, T. \ Luttik, R. \ 2002
Extrapolation techniques based on species sensitivity distributions are usually applied to data sets with four ore more toxicity data. In this chapter, extrapolation factors are developed for SSDs with known standard deviation that also apply to very ...
help
Observed regularities in species sensitivity distributions for aquatic species \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Zwart, D. de \ 2002
This chapter deals with regularities that can be observed in statistical distributions of sensitivity toward chemical exposure over different species. These distributions can only be derived if the toxicity of a chemical is tested with a wide variety ...
help
The value of the species sensitivity distribution concept for predicting field effects: (non-)confirmation of the concept using semifield experiments \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Brink, P.J. van den \ Brock, T.C.M. \ Posthuma, L. \ 2002
The aim of the study is: 1) to substantiate the role of uncertainties and assumptions within the SSD concept 2) to derive scientific conclusions on various aspects of the SSD concept 3) to express the limitations and points of concern regarding the u ...
help
Effects assessment of fabric sofeteners: the DHTDMAC case \ Species sensitivity distributions in ecotoxicology [Hoofdstuk uit boek]
Leeuwen, C.J. van \ Jaworska, J.S. \ 2002
Dihydrogenated-tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride (DHTDMAC) was a test case for the ecotoxicological risk assessment of chemicals. There is no doubt that the (inter)national discussions on DHTDMAC accelerated the mutual acceptance of the new extrapola ...
