Toelichting (Engels) Dikes must provide a given level of protection. This is stated in the Dutch Water Act which has been in force since 1 January 2010. The standard stated in the act is still based on the recommendations of the first Delta Committee, which was established after the 1953 flood disaster. Sea dikes are required to withstand a water level, and the associated waves, that may occur once every 4000 or 10,000 years depending on the location. The standard for river dikes is usually a flood level occurring once every 1250 or 2000 years.

To support researchers to publish their research Open Access, deals have been negotiated with various publishers. Depending on the deal, a discount is provided for the author on the Article Processing Charges that need to be paid by the author to publish an article Open Access. A discount of 100% means that (after approval) the author does not have to pay Article Processing Charges.

For the approval of an Open Access deal for an article, the corresponding author of this article must be affiliated with Wageningen University & Research.
