Toelichting (Engels) The problems can be summarised in the following problem statement: The position of the phreatic surface during extreme conditions is an important influence on the macro-stability and therefore the safety of a regional flood defence. It is currently unclear whether it is possible to determine this position of the phreatic surface more accurately using a numerical model. The objective of this thesis is to extend the knowledge of modelling the phreatic surface in regional flood defences with the use of a numerical model. From the problem description and objective the main research question for this thesis was composed: Can a numerical model contribute to a more accurate estimation of the phreatic surface in a regional flood defence during extreme conditions?

To support researchers to publish their research Open Access, deals have been negotiated with various publishers. Depending on the deal, a discount is provided for the author on the Article Processing Charges that need to be paid by the author to publish an article Open Access. A discount of 100% means that (after approval) the author does not have to pay Article Processing Charges.
