HAPEX-Sahel was a land-surface-atmosphere interaction experiment, carried out in the Sahelian region of West Africa in Niger in 1992. This publication served as a reference for the execution of the experiment. It summarizes scientific objectives and the experimental strategy, and it provides descriptions of the measurement sites and of the contributions of individual investigating teams. Operational details as well as the database strategy are given.
