Paradise as a metaphor has always played an important role in art. This is definitely true for the art of garden design, but paradise is also a metaphor that can be used for the landscape. Some of the most interesting landscapes are found in deltas. Deltas are rich in natural and economic potential. The main civilizations on earth, such as those in West Asia, Egypt, India, China, developed in or near a delta area. Delta areas are also experimental gardens for landscape planning developments. The new landscapes of the 21st century will be for a great deal `everyone's' landscape. Several of these future landscapes are discussed.
