The book gives the main lectures of a NATO workshop dealing with aspects of regional modelling and practical experiences concerning pollution problems related to industrial, agricultural, municipal and former military sites. Special emphasis is given on the Black Triangle in Central Europe, because of high emissions of sulphuric and nitrogen compounds and the extent of large-scale environmental damages, due to intensive brown-coal mining for energy-producing works and industries with obsolete technologies. The possible adverse health effects and the high costs of controlling pollution and the required networks for emission control are discussed.
