Abstract Whereas nectar and pollen provision to predators and parasitoids is a main objective in pursuing agricultural biodiversity, we often know little about whether the flowering plant species involved are actually suitable as insect food sources or about their ultimate impact on biological pest control. This paper highlights the potential and the pitfalls of using biodiversity in conservation biological control and discusses how the benefits can be optimized
