Abstract There is bottom-up control of population performance of mega herbivores via forage quality and quantity as functions of plant available nutrient (PAN) and plant available moisture (PAM). We studied black rhino as a browsing perissodactyla in 7 Kenyan savannahs populations with varying PAN-PAM. We hypothesed: 1. PAN-PAM & interaction between them does not affect age at first calving (AFC), average intercalving interval (ICI) nor yearly percentage of females calving (%FC). 2. AFC, ICI and %FC are not functions of tree cover. Curve Estimation Procedures and Generalised Estimating Equation (GEE) approaches were used to test hypotheses.
