|Abstract||The monitoring project is a multi-year project in which growers applying Next Generation Greenhouse Cultivation
are being followed. Some are monitored for more two full years and for those, it can be seen whether the use of
installations changes over time. Especially the use of screens, but also the accepted humidity in the greenhouse,
has proven to be a decisive factor for the energy savings that can be achieved.
The greenhouse data observed at three cucumber growers for 2 years show that they have indeed increased the
application of screens and that such an increase also provide energy savings.
The relationship between air humidity and energy consumption is also clearly visible. This is quantified using a
simulation model. The computations resulted in rule of thumb saying that at each percentage point that the RH
setpoint is increased, the energy consumption decreases with 1 m³ of natural gas equivalents per m² per year.
Of course this relation will be less strong when using dehumidification systems with heat recovery. In addition
to theoretical and practical measured results, the report discusses the control strategy in cases the humidity
persists to become too high. The measures to be taken are discussed both from a theoretical point of view as
from the pratical point of view by growers.
