Abstract A series of experiments using monospecific and mixed nematode populations in artificial soil mixtures or in natural soils in the presence of suitable host plants showed that there were significant differences in the survival and multiplication of nematodes in different soils. The factors in soil which affect nematode populations are granule composition, soil structure and moisture retention capacity. 'dagger'
