Landschapselementen zijn zeer waardevol in het landelijk gebied, toch ontbreekt een consistente registratie ervan. Door de vergroening van het GLB wordt een goede registratie extra relevant. Er zijn verschillende manieren om hiertoe te komen, al dan niet met inzet van reeds bestaande gegevensbestanden en nieuwe technieken. Door het hanteren van het kader dat is vastgelegd in EUregelgeving zijn deze bestanden en technieken getoetst op bruikbaarheid en worden de verschillende manieren om te komen tot een registratie van landschapselementen beschreven.

Dietary fibers are at the forefront of nutritional research because they positively contribute to human health. Much of our processed foods contain, however, only small quantities of dietary fiber, because their addition often negatively affects the taste, texture, and mouth feel. There is thus an urge for novel types of dietary fibers that do not cause unwanted sensory effects when applied as ingredient, while still positively contributing to the health of consumers. Here, we report the generation and characterization of a novel type of soluble dietary fiber with prebiotic properties, derived from starch via enzymatic modification, yielding isomalto/malto-polysaccharides (IMMPs), which consist of linear (a1 ¿ 6)-glucan chains attached to the nonreducing ends of starch fragments. The applied Lactobacillus reuteri 121 GTFB 4,6-a-glucanotransferase enzyme synthesizes these molecules by transferring the nonreducing glucose moiety of an (a1 ¿ 4)-glucan chain to the nonreducing end of another (a1 ¿ 4)-a-glucan chain, forming an (a1 ¿ 6)-glycosidic linkage. Once elongated in this way, the molecule becomes a better acceptor substrate and is then further elongated with (a1 ¿ 6)-linked glucose residues in a linear way. Comparison of 30 starches, maltodextrins, and a-glucans of various botanical sources, demonstrated that substrates with long and linear (a1 ¿ 4)-glucan chains deliver products with the highest percentage of (a1 ¿ 6) linkages, up to 92%. In vitro experiments, serving as model of the digestive power of the gastrointestinal tract, revealed that the IMMPs, or more precisely the IMMP fraction rich in (a1 ¿ 6) linkages, will largely pass the small intestine undigested and therefore end up in the large intestine. IMMPs are a novel type of dietary fiber that may have health promoting activity.

Het pilotonderzoek Salland is uitgevoerd in het kader van een provinciaal onderzoek naar de ontwikkeling van groenblauwe netwerken in Overijssel door de Provincie Overijssel, Alterra (onderdeel van Wageningen UR) en Landschap Overijssel. Binnen het onderzoek worden op verschillende plaatsen in Overijssel pilots uitgevoerd om vingeroefeningen te doen met het plannen van multifunctionele groenblauwe netwerken.
The CDTA-soluble pectic substances from soybean meal are composed of rhamnogalacturonan and xylogalacturonan but not homogalacturonan

Structural characteristics of pectic substances extracted from soybean meal cell walls (water unextractable solids) with a chelating agent-containing buffer (0.05M 1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N,N,N-tetraacetic acid (CDTA) and 0.05M NH4-oxalate in 0.05M NaOAc buffer) were studied. The arabinogalactans present as side chains to the rhamnogalacturonan backbone were largely removed by enzymatic hydrolysis using endo-galactanase, exo-galactanase, endo-arabinanase, and arabinofuranosidase B. The remaining pectic backbone appeared to be resistant to enzymatic degradation by pectolytic enzymes. After partial acid hydrolysis of the isolated pectic backbone, one oligomeric and two polymeric populations were obtained by size-exclusion chromatography. Monosaccharide and linkage analyses, enzymatic degradation, and NMR spectroscopy of these populations showed that the pectic substances in the original extract contain both rhamnogalacturonan and xylogalacturonan regions, while homogalacturonan is absent.

Synthesis of two hyaluronic-acid-related oligosaccharides, the 4-methoxyphenyl β-glycosides of β-D-GlcpA-(1→3)-β-D-GlcpNAc-(1→4)-D-GlcpA and β-D-GlcpA-(1→3)-β-D-GlcpNAc-(1→4)-β-D-GlcpA-(1→3)- β-D-GJcpNAc-(1→4)-D-GlcpA, is described. D-Glucopyranosyluronic acid residues were obtained by selective oxidation at C6 of corresponding D-glucopyranosyl residues after construction of the oligosaccharide backbones, using pyridinium dichromate and acetic anhydride.

A large part of the young coastal plain consists of heavy clay soils which are inudated for most of the year. This study was primarily conducted to obtain information to be used for new reclamations and improvement of existing polders.

In the pedological study emphasis was laid upon the structure, the permeability and the cation exchange complex of the soil and their interrelationships. Clay soils with a low percentage base saturation usually have stable permeable structures and good potential drainage and irrigation characteristics. Both perennial crops and rice can give high yields on these soils.

A detailed analysis of the precipitation gave information about the local variations in rainfall, the amount of precipitation in rainy and dry seasons, the occurrence of dry years, the rainfall intensity and the required methods of precipitation measurement.

In studying evaporation attention was given to the calculation and measurement of the evaporation of an open watersurface and to the potential evapotranspiration of various vegetations.

Detailed calculations were made of the daily irrigation requirement and the required irrigation capacity of rice, using the waterbalance principle. With data of precipitation, evaporation and the maximum amount of soil water available to the plant moisture deficits were computed for perennial crops.

Finally some attention was paid to drainage problems in heavy clay soils, using, among others, non stationary flow formulas.
