Making a reference list

When you are writing a journal article or thesis in Word, you cite references in the text and, at the end of the text, you make a reference list of all the citations.

Most journals have their own style in formatting in-text citations and reference lists (see figure). EndNote provides styles (extension .ens) for about 4500 journals, but worldwide there are many more journals. For your thesis or reports you can choose a style you like, but when you are writing journal articles you need to use the journal's style.

If EndNote on your computer is installed correctly, an EndNote tab is available in Word. With the commands in this tab, you can insert one or more references from your EndNote library in your text at the point where you want to cite the reference(s). Another function in this tab (called Update Citations and Bibliography) allows you to generate a reference list at the end of the text document in a chosen style.
