In addition to the photographs and glassplates in TUIN, Dutch Garden History and Landscape Architecture designs , there are about 60 small collections of old photographs on various subjects, especially on livestock, civil engineering, garden architecture and on the Dutch East Indies, (tropical agriculture and ethnography). In total, these collections amount to about 5000 photographs.

One of the oldest photographs in this collection is this picture taken in Java in 1861. The captivated tiger shown in the picture moved so much when this photograph was taken that it wasn't visible anymore. Therefore it was later painted on the photograph.
