The Special Collections of Wageningen UR Library has a substantial collection of historic literature on biology, books on botany, zoology, entomology etc. from the end of the 16th century till the begining of the 20th century. Illustrated books, image books and wallcharts on these subjects are valuable for research.
Some of our old books on biology are made electronically available on the website www.biolib.de by the Max-Planck-Institut für Züchtungsforschung, Cologne, Germany.
The Dutch Stichting voor Academisch Erfgoed (SAE, Academic Heritage Society) has restored and digitalized collections of academic wallcharts, among others a part of the collection at Wageningen UR Library. Especially on botany many wallcharts were made in the early twentieth century. A selection is shown on the website Geheugen van Nederland (the Dutch Memory project).
You can browse these books and wallcharts on this website but of course it is also possible to visit the Special Collections to study the
originals.
