How to make your Publication Open Access?


Maak je publicatie Open Access!

Veel uitgevers (o.a. Reed Elsevier) staan toe dat de auteur de laatste versie van de publicatie na het afronden van het referee proces, de zgn. ‘Postprint’, via de repository openbaar beschikbaar stelt. Open Access verbetert de zichtbaarheid en toegankelijkheid van de publicatie wat een hogere citatiescore tot gevolg kan hebben.

Wageningen Yield (WaY) is de repository van Wageningen UR met de bibliografische beschrijvingen en zo mogelijk een link naar de volledige tekst van de publicatie. Wageningen UR ondersteunt Open Access door auteurs te stimuleren om de Postprint van hun artikel in de repository te deponeren.

Doorloop hiervoor de volgende stappen:

  1. Controleer of het artikel niet al Open Access is.
    Wageningen UR auteurs kunnen bij uitgeverij Springer door het Open Choice model hun publicaties direct Open Acces maken (tot 31 december 2011 zonder meerkosten).
    Ook zijn er uitgevers (o.a. Cambridge University Press) die het toestaan om na een bepaalde periode de uitgeversversie via de repository te ontsluiten.
  2. Raadpleeg de link naar Sherpa Romeo in de tijdschriftenlijst om te achterhalen of het tijdschrift het deponeren van een Postprint toestaat. Deze lijst geeft een overzicht van alle JCR tijdschriften waarin Wageningen UR auteurs in het verleden hebben gepubliceerd. Direct zoeken in de lijst van Sherpa Romeo.
  3. Alvorens de Postprint aan WaY aan te bieden voegt u een voorblad aan de publicatie toe. Download hiervoor de template.
  4. Stuur het document naar de Bibliotheek.

Bibliotheek Wageningen UR zorgt dat de Postprint via Way ontsloten wordt.


Make your publication Open Access!

Many publishers (including Reed Elsevier) allow authors to make the final version of the publication (the so-called ‘Postprint’) available to the outside world via the repository following completion of the referee process. Open Access improves the visibility and accessibility of the publication, which can result in a slightly higher citation score.

Wageningen Yield (WaY) is Wageningen UR’s repository, with the bibliographical descriptions and if possible a link to the full text of the publication. Wageningen UR supports Open Access by encouraging authors to file the Postprint of their article in the repository.

To this end, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Check whether the article is not already subject to Open Access. Wageningen UR authors can make their publications Open Access directly through the publisher Springer using the Open Choice model (until 31 December 2011 at no additional cost). There are also publishers (including Cambridge University Press) that allow the publisher’s version to be made available through the repository after a certain period of time.
  2. Consult the list of journals by following the link to Sherpa Romeo to ascertain whether a journal allows Postprints to be filed in this way. This list provides an overview of all JCR journals in which Wageningen UR authors have had work published in the past. Search directly in the Sherpa Romeo list.
  3. Before offering the Postprint to WaY, add a cover sheet to the publication. Download        the template for this.
  4. Send the document to the Library.

Wageningen UR Library will ensure that the Postprint is made available through WaY.
