Toelichting Enzymes plat a critical role in virtually all metabolic and physiological body processes. They are much more than catalysts involved in the digestion of foods and can be categorized into three divisions. Because enzymes are extremely selective for their substrates and speed up only a few reactions among many possibilities, the set of enzymes made in a cell determines which metabolic pathways occur in that cell.
