The article descibes a modern version of a floating pumping plant that is driven by the current in which it rests. The design is an improvement compared to already known pumps working on the same principle and could help developing countries to increase their food production. Most of the construction is made of wood and can be built locally in the developing countries. Another advantage of the design is its utilisation of the flow of the river itself to provide the necessary energy to drive the machinery, thus making it independent of expensive fuels or electricity

To support researchers to publish their research Open Access, deals have been negotiated with various publishers. Depending on the deal, a discount is provided for the author on the Article Processing Charges that need to be paid by the author to publish an article Open Access. A discount of 100% means that (after approval) the author does not have to pay Article Processing Charges.
For the approval of an Open Access deal for an article, the corresponding author of this article must be affiliated with Wageningen University & Research.
