|Toelichting (Engels)||Hydrology provides to a large extent the basis for the solution of water-supply problems and of questions of water control in general. A stream of questions on new problems emenates from the many and important fields to which it is being applied. The great progress made by hydrological science in the last few decades has been born out of this interaction between science and the practical application thereof. In 1942 a small group of Dutch hydrologists set up a centre of discussion called tbe "Hydrologisch Colloquiurn". Problems especially in the field of ground-water flow are regularly discussed in this group, experiences in the application of new calculation methods are exchanged and new approaches in this field are studied. Gradually the need for a comprehensive publication on the flow of ground water into wells made itself felt. It was decided to prepare a publication which would meet the needs of the many hydrologists concerned with this subject.|
