About In this eleventh edition it will be seen that the degree of rewriting differs between chapters. Some are entirely new whereas others, on topics in which there has been less development, have been brought up to date, but much of the material remains. In the Table of Contents no distinction is made between chapters which are esentially new and those where little revision has been required. The book itself is about soils and soil/crop relations, which are subjects of interest to a wide range of scientists and to agriculturists, and it deals with soil properties that affect crop growth. After the first chapter on the historical development of the subject, there are chapters on crop growth, soil formation, chemical and physical properties of soil, soil organisms and the transformations they bring about, plant nutrients in soil, and, finally, the application of soil science to important problems in soil management.
