AGRIS / Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations [Bibliography, serial]
Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations \ 1975-
crop production - zootechny - forestry - agricultural entomology - plant breeding - plant protection - soil science - water resources - land resources - agricultural economics - nutrition - animal husbandry - bibliographies - grey literature

AGRIS was created by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1974, to facilitate information exchange and to bring together world literature dealing with all aspects of agriculture. The database contains bibliographic material about all technical, economic and sociological aspects of agriculture, including forestry, animal husbandry, the aquatic sciences and fisheries, and human nutrition. AGRIS is compiled from data submitted by 240 national AGRIS centers and international organizations. The strength of AGRIS lays in the fact that non-conventional material (the so called 'grey literature') constitutes about 20% of the database. This material comprises scientific and technical reports, theses, conference papers, etc. This material is not covered by other databases. Geographical coverage is international with emphasis on developing countries. About one third of the database refers to non-English documents. Disadvantages of AGRIS are that the database often lags behind, and that some materials are sometimes difficult to obtain.

Web of science : citation databases / Institute for Scientific Information [Bibliography, serial]
ISI, Institute for Scientific Information \ 2000-
bibliographies - social sciences - science

The Web of Science accesses multidisciplinary databases of bibliographic information gathered from more than 10,000 scientific, peer reviewed journals, as well as international proceedings coverage for over 120,000 conferences. The databases are indexed so you can search for specific articles by subject, author, journal, and/or author address. Because the information stored about each article includes the article's cited reference list (often called its bibliography), you can also search the databases for articles that cite a known author or work. This so-called Cited Reference Searching lets you use a given work as if it were a subject term to identify more recent articles on the same topic. Once you have found a relevant record, you can click a link to a list of related records that share common references with the article you are viewing. These two types of searching often locate relevant articles that cannot be retrieved through traditional subject-author searching.
