Abstract The behaviour of oxamyl and propamocarb was studied in nutrient solution applied at different rates to an open drainage system and a closed cultivation system for eighteen days. Hardly did any transformation occur in the nutrient solution in the supply tank. In periods of intense radiation the oxamyl concentration in the solution in the rhizosphere increased above to the applied concentration. The losses to the soil were 12% at a low irrigation rate, and 51% and 65% at the normal and double rates of supply respectively. Maximally 122 mg of oxamyl per rock-wool slab was measured in the retaining water. Propamocarb showed its behaviour to be analogous to that of oxamyl.
