Abstract This report describes the effect of type of breed, type of soft bedding material, group size and area per animal on the welfare and technical performance of beef bulls. The focus is on behaviour, claw wear, lesions in the carpal joint, health, weight gain, feed intake and slaughter quality. The quality of the solid manure from the deep litter and the composting process was also studied
