Abstract High-fibre diets decrease the energy intake and improve the slaughter quality of mixed housed sows and barrows. Due to this, the gross margin increases in barrows but decreases in sows. Because the financial loss in sows is higher than the profit in barrows, financially it is not interesting to feed mixed housed sows and barrows a high-fibre diet.
