Abstract This reports contains the results of an exploration of research and expertise activities on the theme of landscape perception and quality in France. The research was carried out by a French agronomy engineer. The objectives of this research project were to inform French researchers about Alterra's work on landscape perception and quality, and to open up French expertise in this area to Dutch researchers and policy makers. Three means of investigation were used to achieve this: a world wide web exploration, a literature analysis and direct interviews with French scientists working in the field of landscape perception and quality. The focus of the research is on differences in research methods and definitions of landscape quality between France and The Netherlands.
