Abstract Ergot alkaloids are toxins produced by members of the fungal family of Clavicipitaceae represented among others by Claviceps purpurea, C. paspali, and C. fusiformis, occurring predominantly on rye, wheat and barley, but also on rice, maize and sorghum, oats and millet.
