Varieties of European Economic Law and Regulation : Liber Amicorum for Hans Micklitz
    Purnhagen, K. ; Rott, P. - \ 2014
Cham : Springer (Studies in European Economic Law and Regulation 3) - ISBN 9783319049038 - 892
internationaal recht - recht - economie - regulatie - politicologie - publiek recht - burgerlijk recht - privaatrecht - europese unie - Europa - international law - law - economics - regulation - political science - public law - civil law - private law - european union - Europe
This is the first book to comprehensively analyze the work of Hans Micklitz, one of the leading scholars in the field of EU economic law. It brings together analysts, academic friends and critics of Hans Micklitz and results in a unique collection of essays that evaluate his work on European Economic Law and Regulation. The contributions discuss a wide range of Micklitz’ work: from his theoretical work on private law beyond party autonomy, with a special focus on its regulatory function, to the illustration of how his work has built the basis for current solutions such as used in solving the financial crisis. The book is divided into sections covering foundations of private law, regulatory law, competition and intellectual property law, product safety law, consumer contract law and the enforcement of law. This book clearly shows the enormous impact of Hans Micklitz' work on the EU legal system in both scholarship and practice.
Interpretation and method: Empirical research methods and the interpretive turn, 2nd ed.
    Yanow, D. ; Schwartz-Shea, P. - \ 2014
    Armonk, NY : M.E. Sharpe - ISBN 9780765635402 - 552
    onderzoek - methodologie - interpretatie - politicologie - sociale wetenschappen - research - methodology - interpretation - political science - social sciences
This book demonstrates the relevance, rigor, and creativity of interpretive research methodologies for the social and human sciences. The book situates methods questions within the context of broader methodological questions--specifically, the character of social realities and their "know-ability." Exceptionally clear and well-written chapters provide engaging discussions of the methods of accessing, generating, and analyzing social science data, using methods ranging from reflexive historical analysis to critical ethnography. Reflecting on their own research experiences, the contributors offer an inside, applied perspective on how research topics, evidence, and methods intertwine to produce knowledge in the social sciences.
Forest and nature governance: A practice based approach
    Arts, B.J.M. ; Behagel, J.H. ; Bommel, S. van; Koning, J. de; Turnhout, E. - \ 2013
    Dordrecht : Springer (World Forests 14) - ISBN 9789400751125 - 265
politicologie - levenswetenschappen - bosbouw - biodiversiteit - natuurbescherming - natuurbeleid - sociale wetenschappen - governance - political science - life sciences - forestry - biodiversity - nature conservation - nature conservation policy - social sciences - governance
In studies of forest and nature governance the dominant approaches are rational choice and neo-institutionalism. This book takes another perspective. Departing from ‘practice theory’, and building upon scholars like Giddens, Bourdieu, Reckwitz, Schatzki and Callon, it seeks to move beyond established understandings of institutions, actors, and knowledge. In so doing, the book not only presents an innovative conceptual and methodological framework for a practice based approach, but also rich case studies and ethnographies. Examples are participatory forest management in the tropics, REDD policy at global level, European water policy, forest certification and the construction of global biodiversity databases. Taking social practices as the key unit of analysis, this book describes how different practitioners, ranging from local forest managers on the ground to policy makers at the global level, work with trees, forests, biodiversity, wildlife, and so on, and act upon forest policies, environmental discourses, codes of conduct, or scientific insights. It is also about how communities, NGOs, stakeholders, and citizens get involved in forest and nature governance.

Sustainable water management is a key environmental challenge of the 21st century. Developing and implementing innovative management approaches and how to cope with the increasing complexity and uncertainties was the theme of the first International Conference on Adaptive and Integrated Water Management, held in November 2007 in Basel, Switzerland. The conference volume includes selected contributions on conceptual and methodological innovations and empirical insights from case studies on important themes such as multi-level governance, change management, vulnerability assessment, environmental flows, uncertainty analysis and the impacts of climate change. The book addresses a wide interdisciplinary audience of scientists and professionals from academia, industry, and those involved in policy making.
