Abstract

Results of field studies suggested that total root length of Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) in mineral soil was affected by high exchangeable Al accompanied by low exchangeable Ca. This was only true, however, if the mineral soil to 5 cm depth was extremely acid (pH <=3.8). At higher soil pH, parameters other than exchangeable Al and Ca were important in determining root length. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)
