Abstract

Interest in non-urban areas in the Netherlands has greatly increased. This necessitates careful management, especially in rural areas which are affected by the influence of urbanization. Knowledge of the local situation is increasingly important. These trends have had a considerable impact on the development of land use planning and policy. The number of computerized information systems for geographic information has increased considerably. New techniques have been developed to collect and present geographic information, by means of digitizing maps and the use of drawing machines in direct communication with computers. The paper discusses the requirements of geographic information systems with special attention to linking of geographic data and flexible output.
