Abstract

2. In 2 trials, medium heavy laying hens were crossed with White Cornish (Hybro) cocks to produce 2160 male chickens which were kept in batteries and given a diet with 0.3, 0.5 or 0.7% available phosphorus. Bodyweight, growth and feed intake of chickens 3 or 7 weeks old increased with increasing amounts of available P. Efficiency of feed conversion did not differ at 7 weeks old but was improved in chickens given 0.7% P at 3 weeks. Calcium and inorganic P in plasma and breaking strength, ash and P in the tibia increased with increasing P in the diet. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)
