Determination of free ammonium in plant tissue.

Abstract

The testing of a gas diffusion ammonia electrode for analysis of free NH4 in plant tissue is described. The method was quick, simple and reproducible if measurements were made within a few minutes of addition of the base to the plant extract. Coefficients of variation were 12.5 and 7.5% with borax buffer and NaOH, respectively, and it seemed that reproducibility was greater at higher pH.
