Abstract

The external method of measuring liver copper [V.B. 35, abst. 1026] was used to determine the percentage liver uptake after i/v or i/m inj. of Cu-64. The liver uptake was decreased to 35% in the last six months of pregnancy compared with an uptake of 50% in early pregnancy and non-pregnancy. This confirms the hypothesis that the fetal liver derives its copper mainly from the maternal "inorganic" blood copper rather than from the caeruloplasmin.
