The author describes the extension situation in Surinam in comparison with the Netherlands. He deals successively with such aspects as the extension background, scope of extension, working procedures and methods in extension, the relation between extension, applied research and (vocational) teaching, the internal organization of the extension service, extension staff and intellectual investments in agriculture.
