Abstract

During May, June and July (months with normal rainfall) pod numbers on bean plants sheltered by windscreens were 60% higher than on plants exposed to the wind. Later in the season when rainfall became excessive the windscreens, by reducing wind velocity, produced a damp atmosphere which encouraged plant diseases. Outside the sheltered zone the crop was dried by the wind and suffered little loss from disease.-Inst. biol. Field Res., Arnhem. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)
