Abstract

Experiments in Ecuador are described. The advantages of oil sprays were simplicity of spraying and a rapid, partially curative effect due to penetration into the leaves. These were offset, however, by lack of persistence on the leaf surface and by cumulative toxic effects. Copper sprays containing effective stickers were sufficiently persistent to need no repetition during the dry season and were highly protective against the conidial phase of the fungus, but they were not curative. Bancobre-01 has proved an excellent copper product for banana leaves, and was effectively applied by means of a Giraffe mist-blower. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)
