Abstract

The classification distinguishes humic grey-brown podzolic soils at 1, 600-1, 300 m, grey-brown podzolic soils at 1, 300-1, 000 m, acid brown forest soils at 1, 000-600 m, podzolic brown latosols at 600-300 m and latosolic soils at 300 m to sea level. Morphological and chemical data are discussed with reference to destruction of organic matter, diffusion of the CO2 produced and type of clay mineral present.
