Abstract

Four profiles developed on dacitic tuffaceous material 70 m above sea level were investigated. The soils belong to podzolic latosolic or red-yellow podzolic groups depending on drainage. High clay content of the B horizon is attributed to breakdown of clay minerals in the upper horizons. With increasing depth, C/N ratios remain constant and A12O3/Fe2O3 ratios increase, as contrasted with latosolic and temperate podzolic soils in which both values decrease with depth.
