Abstract

Various native agricultural settlement systems are described. Moving strips of cultivated fields are managed in 3 ways: (1) The farmers, occupying adjacent strips permanently, carry out simultaneously deforestation, each stage of the crop rotation, and re-afforestation. (2) Blocks of 1-3 strips are separated by forest and re-allocated each year. (3) There is no individual land allocation and the strips are cultivated mechanically or by collective manual labour.-J.F.C. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)
