Abstract

The limiting factor for fruit setting appears to be the length of the period during which the tree stands in full leaf at the beginning of the dry monsoon. In that period there is severe competition for available water between the leaves and the young fruits. The total water consumption of a kapok plantation and its transpiration ratio were compared with data on other plants.-From author's summary.
