The effect of an iodinated casein fraction on the milk yield of goats.

Abstract

The authors found that intramuscular in-jections of the thyroxine-free B fraction of iodinated casein [see D.S.A. 13 (3) 301 (1951), POULSEN] into lactating goats, whilst causing marked increases in the milk and butterfat yields, resulted in an average decrease in live weight of 10 per cent and in a rise in both heart rate and body temperature. The effects showed little difference from those obtained with the oral administration of whole iodinated casein. Their findings thus disagree with those of Poulsen who found that the B fraction of iodinated casein had little or no effect on live weight. E.J.M.
