Gulden Reinette   (in the provinces of Utrecht and Gelderland).

Reinette Montmorency. (Material we received from England under this name is, however, a different variety)

Origin presumably the province of Utrecht, where this variety is very popular.

 

SHAPE: regular, sometimes a bit higher

SIZE: second grade; apples from young trees may approach first grade

EYE: generally wide open, broad sepals, in a rather broad and deep basin, surrounded by a few rises

STALK: rather long, thick, woody, in a regular, narrow and russeted cavity

The COLOUR: as illustrated; the red colour can be found in a more flamed way, the apple shows a thin, yellowish brown occasional russeting.

The FLESH is yellowish, soft, moderately fine, very juicy, pleasantly sour, not sharp

TIME OF USE: December - March. First grade for dessert and kitchen.

The TREE grows strongly, bears fruit abundantly, especially on heavy soil, leaves are big and lobate, the flowers are big, too. Recommended for all shapes, in particular the standard tree in the orchard.
