Fraas' weisser Sommer-Calvill.

According to the Handbuch the mothertree of this variety can be found in the vicar's garden from Balingen, Württemberg.

SHAPE: usually the apple shows five to seven flat ribs, one of which is higher, making the apple lopsided

SIZE: second grade; the illustration was made from an apple from a pyramid on Paradijs stock; from standard trees the fruits are smaller.

EYE: closed, with long, pointed, green and woolly sepals; narrow, medium deep basin surrounded by little ribs or folds.

STALK: short, fleshy, often not more than a fleshy lump; medium deep, irregular cavity with light grey ray-like russeting

The COLOUR: as illustrated, often more white-yellow, at the shadow side greenish white, at the sun side a slight pink blush; small grey lenticels in a little green circle especially at the sun side; the skin is glossy and waxy, like other Calvilles.

The FLESH is white, soft, not fine, somewhat loose, not too sour, in The Netherlands without aroma, which, according to the Handbuch, in Württemberg it does seem to possess.

TIME OF USE: September; second or third grade for dessert; very good for sauce.

The TREE is a strong grower and very fertile; one year old twigs are woolly, leaves are large and also woolly. This variety can be recommended as a standard tree as well as a pyramid, if planted in big gardens amidst other varieties. Also recommended for new orchards, since the apple might be successful in the market because of its beauty.
