The origin of this very old and widely distributed, highly appreciated variety is unknown, but most probably Dutch.

SHAPE: very regular, almost no variations from the illustration.

SIZE: fourth grade, sometimes considerably bigger than in the illustration.

EYE: closed, pointed sepals, grey and woolly, attractive, very shallow but deep basin.

STALK: medium sized, often long, woody, greyish brown, in a rather broad and deep cavity.

The COLOUR of the soft and fine skin is almost always as reproduced, while still on the tree often covered by a thin bloom; sometimes the red colour shows in flames or stripes, we have never seen any russeting.

The FLESH is very white, fine, rather firm, later firm and very sweet; the core is medium sized, its pips are small and dark brown.

TIME OF USE: October - December. As a sweet (stew)apple first grade for the kitchen.

The TREE grows well and forms a large, flat-round crown; summer twigs are thin, grey-brown; the variety is moderately fertile, highly appreciated, recommendable for the orchard, one of the best for the mentioned season; the tree does well in all soils, although it brings the best apples when in a rich clay soil; it can become very old.
