ire de Fauquemont   (Beschrijving der vruchtsoorten [Description of fruit varieties], second series, N°. 143).

F. jahn (Verzeichniss von Obstsorten, 1864) mentions this variety in the category of unclassified apples "unclassificirte Aepfel.". The Maandschrift voor Tuinbouw [Agriculture Monthly] (BLUSSÉ en van braam , Dordrecht, 1848) publishes a translation from the Journal d'Horticulture pratique, describing an apple by the name of Zijde van Fauquemont (Soie de Fauquemont); we can't decide if this is the same variety.

We received this variety from the Society in Bergen, Henegouwen (Belgium).

SHAPE: regular.

SIZE: fourth grade.

EYE: medium large, part closed, pointed sepals in a broad, medium deep and russeted basin.

STALK: medium length, thin, woody, in a narrow, russeted cavity.

THE COLOUR is light greenish yellow, the skin is a bit rough; when ripe the colour changes to golden yellow, at the sun side some brownish red, occasional light, greyish russeting; lenticels are many and brown.

THE FLESH is yellowish white, fine, firm, juicy, very pleasant and aromatic. The core is medium sized, pips are big and dark brown.

TIME OF USE: December and January; first grade for dessert.

THE TREE is a moderate grower and fertile; its branches are straight, its twigs thin and olive-coloured, with a pale bloom, a bit woolly; many small, round lenticels; buds are small, high and pointed, leaves are medium sized, oblong and pointed; especially the lower leaves are strongly serrated. This variety is recommended as pyramid and espalier, but can be used as standard tree in the garden.
