Munches Pippin.

The origin is unknown; specimens sent to us from Germany and France are the same as our apple.

SHAPE: sometimes less ribbed than in ill. 62a and more pointed than 62c.

SIZE: fourth grade.

EYE: closed; sepals pointed, basin surrounded by some ribs, but seldom as strong as in ill. 62c, a little russeting.

STALK: medium sized, woody, shallow cavity with some russeting.

The COLOUR is lemon-yellow, at the sun side flushed with brownish red, often a bit flamed, often some russeting, few, dark lenticels. The skin is usually rather smooth, sometimes rough.

The FLESH is yellowish white, soft, fine, juicy, with a very pleasant, spicy taste. Medium sized core with large, brown pips.

TIME OF USE: November - Februart; first grade for dessert.

The TREE is a moderate grower and its high fertility is remarkable; twigs are thin, olive-coloured with some brown, a bit shiny, showing round and oblong lenticels; buds are pointed and smallish; medium sized leaves, oblong and narrow, curved upwards, irregularly serrated, light green; leaf stalks are rather long and thin; shoots are violet and woolly; the flowers are regularly shaped, pinkish red, with oval petals.

This variety is recommended for pyramid or dwarf-tree, less suitable as an espalier against walls, because a too warm place will soon make the fruits mealy; suited for the kitchen-garden as a standard or half-sized tree.
