The origin of the apple presumably is England; we received it from Messrs. BOOTH & SÖHNE from Hamburg, Germany.

SHAPE: sometimes less ribbed.

SIZE: second or third grade; often much bigger than in our illustration.

EYE: usually closed, sometimes half closed; small grey sepals in a medium basin, usually surrounded by ribs which cover more than half the apple.

STALK: 15 - 20 mms long, woody, brown, in a narrow cavity, with sometimes a ray-like, grey-green russeting.

The COLOUR of a sun-exposed apple is often more flamed and striped than the illustrated fruit; the skin is almost smooth, a bit glossy, with occasional fine, light grey lenticels; sometimes a slight russeting.

The FLESH is yellowish white, sometimes greenish white, rather fine, soft, juicy, moderately sour, very aromatic. The core is big, open, with many perfect, coffee-brown pips.

TIME OF USE: October - January; first grade for the kitchen.

The TREE is a strong grower and very fertile; the twigs are long and strong, dull brown with a greyish skin and round, grey, unevenly spread lenticels. Medium buds, broad, woolly, flat; shoots are of a somber brown-red and woolly; grooved leaf stalks, woolly, 30 - 50 mms long; big leaves, more or less round, sometimes oval, bulging, coarsely and deeply serrated, dark green, woolly underneath. Recommended as a standard tree.
