Reinette von Breda    (Handbuch, I, page 273, L. MÜLLER, page 75, N°. 108); we received this variety under this name, completely identical to ours, from Mr. oberdieck. Other synonyms, found in the Handbuch and described by L. MÜLLER, belong to other varieties.

The origin of this apple is unknown; it has been in our possession from time out of mind.

SHAPE: sometimes looking like a pear, hence probably Serrurier's denomination Konings-Peerappel (King's Pearapple), usually conform our illustrations.

SIZE: third grade.

EYE: half closed, with imperfect sepals, in a russeted, greenish basin.

STALK: thin, woody, brown, about 20 mms long, in a shallow, russeted cavity.

The COLOUR is greenish yellow, golden yellow at the sun side with orange spots and rust figures, entirely covered with grey lenticels. The skin is rough, not fine, waxy.

The FLESH is yellowish white, fine, juicy, not very aromatic. The core is medium sized, surrounded by yellow veins, with light brown pips.

TIME OF USE: January until the end of April; second grade for dessert, if the tree is placed favourably the apple is of the first grade.

The TREE is a strong grower while young; the twigs are upright, they are dark brown, somewhat glossy, with a greyish skin, with many different and irregularly placed lenticels; the buds are large, long, flat; the shoots are woolly; leaf stalks are 30 mms long, brownish; the leaves are big, oblong and oval, with a rather pointed, twisted tip, bending upwards, attachment to the stalk askew, very regular, sharply serrated, young leaves are woolly.

Suitable as a standard tree, pyramid or espalier.
