angtons Sondersgleichen    (Handbuch, I, page 313 ; E. LUCAS, Abb. Württ. Obsts., table I, very intense red colour; L. MÜLLER, Obstk,, N°. 79, page 63).

Langtons None Such    (Hamburg).

Englischer gestreifter Kurzstiel    (diel).

Rosmarin-Reinette    (Coburg).

Mohn-Apfel    (Altenburg).

According to the Handbuch an English apple, which diel received from the arborist loddiges from London; whether the None Such - according to the Handbuch described only briefly by downing - is the same apple, we can not decide.

SHAPE: regular; our illustration is so similar to the one in the Handbuch and the one from LUCAS, that all three seem to have been made after the same apple.

SIZE: third grade, on young trees approaching second grade.

EYE: open, with upright, grey sepals in a green circle; wide, rather deep basin, surrounded by little folds.

STALK: 25 - 30 mms long, woody, brown, in a nice, wide, deep cavity covered with a thin green-grey russeting.

The COLOUR is greenish yellow, later full yellow, the entire apple covered with lively crimson flames, stripes and spots, at the sun side often entirely crimson. Lenticels hardly visible; on the tree the apple has an attractive thin bloom. The skin is smooth and glossy.

The FLESH is white with yellow veins, when ripe sometimes with red veins around the core and underneath the skin, not very fine, moderately juicy, a pleasantly sour taste, no aroma. The core is rather big, with medium cells and perfect, dark brown pips.

TIME OF USE: October and November, much longer according to the Handbuch; in our opinion first or second grade only for the kitchen, although the apple has some decorative value for dessert.

The TREE grows well. The twigs are medium sized, brown with olive, small lenticels; the buds are flat; the shoots are woolly; the leaves light green, oval, pointed, very fine serrating, almost absent.

Suitable for standard tree and pyramid shape.
