Sommer-Rabau,  according to MÜLLER; we have other varieties under the name Rabau.

According to the Handbuch sent in by diel from Metz (France); we received it from Mr. OBERDIECK.

SIZE: third grade; the Handbuch shows the apple somewhat bigger than the apples we have seen sofar.

EYE: usually closed; long, woolly sepals; medium sized basin, often with a few rises, which continue over the fruit, sothat a cross section seldom shows a round apple.

STALK: 25 - 30 mms, woody, brown with green, a bit woolly; russeted cavity.

The COLOUR is greenish yellow, at the sun side somewhat brown-red with yellow; entirely covered with a thin, grey russeting which still shows a bit of ground colour. The skin is thick.

The FLESH is yellowish with green veins, soft, rather fine, not very juicy, sour, no aroma, in our experience not pleasant. The core is large, small cells, in which we have never seen well-developed pips.

TIME OF USE: not later than October; second or third grade for the kitchen.

The TREE is a moderate grower, builds an attractive pyramid, will be fertile early, but tends to drop many fruits already in September. The twigs are medium, brown with green, with occasional small lenticels; the buds are flat, the shoots are firm and a bit angular, woolly at the tip; leaf stalks are firm, 20 - 30 mms long; the leaves are broad, almost round, dully serrated, woolly underneath.

We can not recommend this variety, there are so many better apples; if planted pyramid shape would be best.
