According to downing an English apple; we received it from rivers from Sawbridgeworth (England).

SHAPE: seldom different from our illustration; small bumps are all over the apple.

SIZE: third grade; usually somewhat smaller than our illustration.

EYE: closed, small, with small, grey sepals, in a narrow, shallow basin surrounded by little folds and a thin grey russeting.

STALK: 10 - 15 mms long, rather thick, brown with green, often with a fleshy bump, in a narrow, thinly grey russeted cavity.

The COLOUR is greenish yellow, at the sun side golden yellow with some somber red; a network pattern of thin grey russet lines covers the apple.

The FLESH is cream-coloured with some green-yellow veins, rather firm, somewhat crispy, juicy, sweet-sour, very aromatic, savoury. The core is medium sized, as are the cells; small, light brown, imperfect pips.

TIME OF USE: October - January; first grade for dessert.

The TREE is a moderate grower, branches out strongly, builds a nice crown and a attractive pyramid. The twigs are medium, slender, olive with some light violet, with round, grey lenticels; the buds are medium and flat; the shoots are strong, medium length, woolly, leaf stalks are 25 - 30 mms long, thick, grooved; the leaves are egg-shaped, dully serrated.

This variety can be recommended for all shapes and is very fertile; first grade apple, also in England.
